Donuts don't get any fresher than this! A hot donut comes out and you get to customize it however you want. I was in the plaza and have been wanting to check this place out for a while. I was meeting a friend for lunch, but figured one donut couldn't hurt? I spoke to Stephen, the owner and he was so enthusiastic about making sure everyone enjoyed the donuts. He had a very welcoming personality and it shows that he cares about the product he's putting out. I love chocolate frosted donuts so I started there and then decided to add coconut and pistachios to it... yes, they have whole pistachios as a donut topping! The donut was excellent and I had to pry myself away from ordering another and completely ruining my lunch. My only suggestion would be to crush the pistachios, which would not only be more cost effective, but I think the flavor would be better if the pistachio was spread all over the donut instead of whole nuts on top.

Excellent. Only complaints are the limited selection and tiny sized "large" drink. I guess the limited selection allows them to keep the quality high. Check it out.

Fantastic donuts and excellent coffee as well. If you've ever had Duck Donuts, it's a similar concept but the Charleston donuts are way better. The donuts are lighter, softer, and have a nice crunch. Who doesn't love that! We will definitely be returning. The red velvet with cream cheese icing is pure yum.

Best Bavarian donut ever! The staff was so friendly and helpful. You can build your own donuts with an array of toppings or just get your favorite go to. It was sooooo good, I highly recommend trying this place!

Let me start out by saying how much I originally hated cake donuts. I would have rather eaten liver and onions than a cake donut. I think it was more of a texture thing, because I grew up exclusively eating yeast donuts. With that being said, I can honestly say Charleston Donuts has blown me out of the water with their customizable, made fresh to order, hand-dipped cake donuts. My husband and I come here every Sunday as it is now our tradition to get donuts on Sundays. The vast array of toppings and frostings you can choose from vary from chocolate caramel turtle to strawberry with fruity pebbles to maple bacon (try it, I dare you!). When you get your donuts, they are enjoyably warm and go great with a big glass of milk or one of the King Bean coffees. They also offer smoothies and bottled juices. To the child below that gave this place a one star review complaining that they do not offer anything healthy - newsflash...it's a donut shop! That's like getting mad that McDonald's doesn't have a large salad selection. No one deliberately goes to a donut shop looking for healthy choices. As for saying the donuts are "greasy", all donuts are fried in oil and the donuts at Charleston donut are not any more oily than any other donut place - they're delicious and each bite melts in your mouth. Also, who wants fruit on their donut? That's just strange. I go to get donuts full well knowing I'm having a cheat meal and never would I ever expect to get healthy food at a donut shop. Regardless, Charleston Donuts is absolutely fantastic and my new favorite donut shop in Charleston. The owner is very sweet and does not mind taking odd requests like half and half iced donuts or just a drizzle instead of a full dip. Hurry and go before it gets super busy, which I highly anticipate with their fabulous donuts and elite customer service. Cheers!

Growing up in Springfield IL, I was spoiled by a quality local donut shop thanks to Mel-O-Cream. I mean its fabulous!! I mean really, I crave over their cream filled crunchy bun all the time! Ok, ok, enough about them, what about Charleston Donuts. When I walked in they asked if I'd ever been and I said no but that I knew about them bc I was a Yelper. Thanks to Loretta J's ROTD last week, I ordered the strawberry with fruity pebbles right off the bat. I then let them know to add five more at their choosing since I planned on sharing with friends. They asked girls or guys and I said guys so they gave me a red velvet, maple bacon, oreo cookie, apple crisp, and a Bavarian cream, which is one they don't always carry. Since my office is only 5 minutes away I was able to try the strawberry while it was still warm. Really good. I thought it would be way too sweet, but it wasn't. I also tried a bite of the apple crisp, maple bacon, and red velvet. Red Velvet was easily my favorite bite. The cream cheese icing was great. The most talked about donut was the maple bacon. My buddy just couldn't wrap his head around bacon on a donut. I thought it was fine and so did two other's that tried it, but one just found it to be a culinary faux pas! My only hiccup about it was I wanted the bacon to be crispier. I will definitely return. The donuts are good and fresh, the two people working were both really friendly and helpful, and hey, there's a liquor store right next door, so you know, two birds, one stone. :)

We love Charleston Donuts! There are so many varieties, icings, and toppings. All donuts are made as you wait and are always hot. The staff is so friendly, too!

I've been dreaming about going to this place since I stumbled on Loretta J's review. Thinking that i'd never venture to find this place, I was at the Mega Marshalls when I saw a donut sign within the complex. I thought to myself: "This couldn't be THE doughnut place I've been thinking about.. could it?" I walked towards the sign and there it was! The sounds of heaven was heard as a light shined down upon this place! Maybe it wasn't that dramatic or epic, but that's what I thought in my head. Imagine a customizable Krispy Creme, where "Hot Doughnuts Now" is all the time! A small shop hidden between a Walmart shopping center and TJ Maxx, is an oasis of customized donuts made fresh to order! A lovely family owned business with very sweet, happy staff that is ready and willing to make recommendations. It was a Sunday so I had to try their special of the day, a Red Velvet doughnut with cream cheese icing. It was everything I could dream of and more! I also tried the seasonal doughnut with pumpkin frosting, topped with pecans. A great combo! Me and my husband also shared a doughnut with chocolate frosting topped with Lays potato chips, which was deliciously salty sweet. Think of chocolate covered lays in doughnut form. So amazing! All of the doughnuts came out piping hot, and they were oh so good! I also appreciate how nothing was too sweet. All of the doughnuts had their distinct flavors that were able to stand out without being overpowered by a ton of sugar. To drink I had a hazelnut latte. Very good coffee, and not too sweet like Starbucks lattes can be. I love finding one of a kind places and supporting local businesses. I also like how they support local business themselves by selling local tea and coffee within the shop. I'm excited for the day I come back and try more!

Customize a donut! Pick a donut, pick a glaze or frosting and choose your toppings. The decorators will then create your custom donut while you watch. Should I choose cream cheese frosting with bacon? Chocolate frosting with coconut and almonds? Vanilla frosting with mini M&Ms? I settled on strawberry frosting, sprinkled with Fruity Pebbles and pistachios. It was... the best donut I have ever had. The outside was crispy and the inside was cakey but still fluffy. And it was served piping hot. The gooey berry frosting and crunchy toppings were perfectly complimentary. I had only planned on having one donut but found myself ordering another one. They took my old standby- Chocolate frosting with rainbow sprinkles to a new level. The chocolate frosting was dark and rich. This was a decadent treat. This time I also ordered a cup of coffee and it was very good. They have other Donut choices beside the white cake type. There was seasonal apple cider option as well. They also accept suggestions for novel donut toppings. Anyone up for cinnamon toast crunch?

What a great place! Although it was difficult to find (tucked in the back corner of the Walmart shopping plaza), it was worth the hunt!! It's so much fun building your own donut, and the combinations you can create are endless! I opted for the red cake, cream cheese icing, bacon and pistachios - mind blowing! My daughter ordered a choloate donut, vanilla icing and mini m&ms.

Lets here it for small business. Consistently out shining their mega competitors in quality and customer service. My first visit to Charleston Donuts was a treat! How I walked out with a half dozen when I walked in with the solid intention of only getting 2 is some kind of fat magic or something. This little shop has a seemingly endless list of options. It'll take me a little minute to fine tune my donut soul mate, but I welcome the journey. Upon telling the gentleman inside that it was my first time, he kindly explained the options, the lady and man popular preferences..(lol). and made some great suggestions. These donuts pack some weight. Evil right how the chains make donuts that are 60% air, so 1 all to quickly turns into 7? Yeah, not these. Not speaking from experience. Ya know, just saying. These are white cake donuts, on the sweet side, that have a slight crunch from being freshly made. Layering with many sweet additions makes for a secure sugar fix. My favorite so far is the caramel and sea salt. Looking forward to trying the many options!

Every one here is so nice and helpful! The doughnuts are amazing! All the different toppings makes it so much fun to try something different and new!

You know that feeling when you drink too much and then have a blast going all out Ron Jeremy on your bed mate, then feel a twinge of guilt afterwards.... That's what this is. Decadent debauchery. I like mine with shame glaze & guilt sprinkles. Seriously, clean place; kind and attentive staff; & very respectable coffee drinks.

  • Banana S.

The staff is very friendly and the donuts are made to order. There are so many different toppings from potato chips to cashew to bacon! Yes, I said bacon! The donuts themselves are not super sweet, which is great because the toppings add all the flavor. The donuts are served warm and literally melt in your mouth. It's so fun to experiment and try all the different flavor combinations. Final Thoughts: Yummy yum yum.

  • Tracy G.

Made to order donuts! It's a lot of fun but the amount of options make the decision process so much harder than at a normal donut shop. The staff are super friendly and will happily guide you through picking and creating the perfect donut. You start with what type of donut base you want- I chose regular but my friend chose red velvet. From there it's almost like being at a Coldstone Creamery or Marble Slab. There is a multitude of different glazes, icings and toppings to choose from. They came up with some fun concoctions which they graciously made pictures of so you can see what all it entails. I was feeling in a meaty kind of mood so I went with maple icing and crumbled bacon...mmmm...bacon! My friends opted for the cream cheese icing with pecans on their red velvet donut. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but my friends were super excited about their coffee options which are apparently hard to find in the Charleston area. We walked out of there feeling very happy!

Fantastic, fast, friendly service. I haven't even tried my donut or latte yet, but the staff alone is reason for me leaving this review. Pleasant, charming little donut and coffee shop right in my neighborhood. Friendly customers too. Definitely recommended!

Probably the grossest donuts I've ever had. If you're looking for pure unadulterated corn syrupy food, then this might be the donut shop for you. Pros: - Donuts are customizable. First time I've seen this, and it's quite a good idea. - You can get bacon as a topping. - Cheap Cons: - Cake donuts only. No yeast donuts, pigs in a blanket, donut holes. - The majority of the toppings are candy, cookies, or nuts. Sickeningly sweet when put on top of a cake donut. No fruit options, or really anything remotely healthy. Not that I expect donuts to be healthy, but I don't think you can get anything here that doesn't come preprocessed from a factory. - Smoothies are just made from premade syrup, no real fruit was used.

Unbelievable donuts you choose the icing . Red velvet with cream cheese icing and regular with pumpkin icing are the best!!!!

This place is great. Donuts are fresh and warm! They offer so many different kinds. It can be overwhelming when you walk in. But a good kind of overwhelming. The donuts practically melt in your mouth. So delicious. They also offer smoothies. I had a pins colada and added some whipped cream to it. Staff is super cool and friendly. Gotta love it

We headed here while on vacation. We only tried the donuts -- We liked them so much, we ended up stopping by again on our way out of town! Donuts are great, people are friendly. We ordered Caramel with Pecans, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Bacon, a custom: Chocolate Donut with Caramel Icing and Peanuts, and lastly our FAV the smores. All of them were great.

Visiting Charleston and came across a true gem; a made to order Donut shop that also serves a delicious Chicken Bacon Ranch Panini Sandwich. Owner was exceedingly Customer focused, and it is evident takes pride in his product. A true paragon of how a Small Business should operate. I will reaturn!

I haven't posted a review in a while, and I'm coming out of retirement just to tell you that these are without a doubt the best doughnuts I have ever had!!

The best surgeons in the world have a passion for what they do, if you have rare type of cancer and need specialized surgery, find the guy that dreams about treating that specific type of cancer. When you want one of the worlds greatest donuts, the same rule applies. Find the chef that dreams of donuts. This, my friends, is that place. Do not come to Charleston without buying one of these masterpieces! Stopped in based on reviews with my family of six. The owner was phenomenal and attentive, he made each donut himself, with a special twist for each child. It was a wonderful experience and will be sure to make it part of our Charleston routine.

I saw this place on a recent trip to TJ Maxx. When I checked out the reviews on Yelp I knew we'd have to come back and give it a try. It did not disappoint! I came one afternoon for a post first day if preschool treat. We had fun planning our 1/2 dozen and they were all super delicious. My kids loved the fruity pebble toppings! The donuts themselves were light and delicious! The price is really reasonable for a 1/2 dozen but if you get carried away with toppings the $ sneaks up pretty quickly. Overall I'd say a nice special treat :)

After hearing a few friends mention this place, I knew I had to try. This is the only 'made to order' donut shop in town. I was caught off guard at first because I expected to we pretty donuts waiting for me to salivate over but instead you see this amazing board with all your options. You choose your icing, toppings, quantity and then watch the magic happen. We did chocolate with sea salt and chocolate with potato chips. Both delicious! Next time I'll be trying strawberry with fruity pebbles! Or bacon and maple. The possibilities are pretty endless! The staff were really friendly and the 'made to order' element didn't take long at all. I loved that the donut was hot which you never find. They had a good selection of smoothies, coffee and tea though we didn't have any. Next time! Can't wait to go back!

For reference, I haven't been a huge doughnut fan from the get-go. (so take my opinion with a grain of salt!) However, a few places in Charleston have exceeded my expectations and turned me into an occasional doughnut craver. I built up an idea of what this place would be like and was a tad disappointed. Not to say that the doughnuts were subpar, but I just wasn't blown away by any of the flavors or the glazes - a seemingly overpowering confectioned sugar taste. Thumbs up for the create-your-own aspect and the friendliness of staff. Worth a visit, but not my favorite spot in Charleston.

Cool idea. The donuts are fresh but for me they just weren't good. They were similar to Krispy Kreme to me. I'll stick with joeys for my donut fix

Donuts made to order. Gluten free donuts that are light and fresh, made to order. I had a turtle and a cinnamon sugar, both were fantastic. My sons had chocolate with gummy bears and s'mores. We wanted to try all the original, creative flavors! Great coffee, had a really nice iced latte. Incredibly friendly and accommodating owner. I love this place.

Found this place yesterday when strolling through Wando Crossing shopping center. It's hidden a corner. Staff was friendly & eager to serve with great customer service. I highly recommend the sea salt caramel! Donut was yummy. It was not greasy or heavy in stomach afterward. Try this local spot & skip the chains.

This little donut shop tucked into the corner of a strip mall was one of the gems we discovered while visiting the Charleston, South Carolina area. Each donut is made fresh when you order and the choices are too numerous to list. My husband and I decided to share 3 different donuts but wound up buying a 4th before leaving the shop. We purchased the pumpkin pecan, chocolate bacon, maple bacon and caramel sea salt donuts. Some of the other topping choices are potato chips, Fruity Pebbles and Snickers. You can't have a donut without coffee and it was excellent, roasted locally. Topping off the experience was the excitement of the husband/wife owners. It's obvious they have a passion for what they do and it shows in the finished product.

Love these doughnuts because they are warm and fresh! The chocolate and potato chip is delicious. Also love the red velvet one with the cream cheese icing.

It's near to TJ Maxx-weird start to the review but the biggest problem with the place --finding it. Tasty donut with lots of creative icing and toppings. Simple decor. Basic strip mall yummy. Decent coffee. Chai was ok might have it again. Not a destination but define fly worth getting a donut if you are close and want something sweet. A mixed dozen brought home would be a hit.

I'm not sure if I'm the best person to be writing this as I'm not a Connoisseur of Donuts but I might as well write my humble opinion! This is more of a gourmet style donut place serving made to order donuts. Located in the Walmart shopping area, tucked in the corner. The owner Stephen makes fresh donuts right before your eyes. The donuts are made right there and then and you then choose the frosting /glaze and any toppings you may want. $1.25 each, 6 for $6.99 or a dozen for $12.99. There is a big selection to choose from (see pic of menu.) The frosting are free, but should you want less, as in a "drizzle " it costs an extra 20cents. You can then choose a topping. Everything from sprinkles to potato chips! This is for an extra 25 cents. 35 cents for premium toppings such as cashews. At first glance, I don't think these are the prettiest donuts. They are not uniform in shape and look a little on the slim side. But I think that's the charm. They are hand made! And they melt in your mouth when eaten warm... Strongly advise to try this!!! I don't very often like donuts but I really enjoyed these. Yes, really. I'm not keen on overly sweet either but I'm sure by the time you have chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles the kids will think these pretty too. The flavour of the week is at no addition and includes a frosting and topping. They also serve local Charleston coffee and smoothies. The service was great and you will be helped with your choice if you're stuck. Very friendly staff, an absolute must for any business that wants my business. Overall, I highly recommend. Not just your average donut place.

  • Cassandra R.

These are such a decadent treat. The only problem I've found with this place is making a decision on what to put on my donut, so many options!! The kids love going here and making their own custom treat and of course us adults enjoy it too. It's nice to have a donut option in town that's not Dunkin' or as far out as Joey's.

  • Marica M.

Best donuts I've ever had! Not too sweet like others, always fresh and you can customize it! "Fluffy cake donut" "Amaaaaaaaaazing" "First location" I know this would be a hit in no time! Owner and staff are very friendly! I wish they have one on downtown. I'll be getting donuts here whenever I'm @ Mt. Pleasant...

The doughnuts were great they are made fresh on the spot. Any toppings you can think of they have. The owner is really nice and they give excellent customer service. The creme brûlée latte is delish!

These donuts were amazing!! Fresh, hot and made to order. I loved that you can customize your donut. The possibilities are endless. They also have a gluten free donut available on Sat and Sun weekdays by special request. It's so hard to find gluten free donuts and this one was awesome.

A great little donut/coffee shop hidden away in the corner of the Walmart/TJ Maxx shopping center. Extremely friendly family operated business. Been here a few times and always get great service and donuts/coffee. Too many to choose from... If it wasn't for having to do extra time in the gym, I'd visit weekly! Lol Maple bacon, choc bacon are awesome... Gonna try choc/lays and the fruity pebbles next time. My Latte was also prepared to perfection. Try this place

Just discovered this place in Mt. P - AMAZING. wonderfully locally and family owned and it shows! Donuts are made fresh and glazed/topped to order.... oh my!!! This place is trouble! Plus they have great latte's and coffees from local King Bean Coffee.

  • C S.

Amazing! Donuts made by hand and with a family smile. Tucked in the corner of a strip mall, next to Walmart, is heaven for all ages. Kids get to discover what a fresh warm donut that melts in your mouth should taste like. Adults - they are so good it's worth the break in the diet. We love the cinnamon and sugar and the chocolate with sea salt. It's family owned. Everyone is so friendly. Try it! You'll like it! In the age of everyone making artisanal something or everything, the donuts at Charleston Donuts is a lost art. You can put everything from potato chips to candy on yours but I say keep it simple so you can enjoy the flavor of the donut.

  • YoYo J.

Brave the directions for this place. I haven't even tasted the donuts yet but the customer service is outstanding. I've never tipped at a donut shop but i did here. Not only do they make the donuts to order, hot and fresh, they will help you carry them to your car!!! I'm getting the house mixed dozen that includes flavors like strawberry fruity pebbles and cookies and cream. I checked in with Yelp and got a free donut, I chose the maple bacon...because well BACON. This is a cute little place, I sort of wish they were in a better location right of of 17 I feel like they would be booming with business! I'm sure the donuts are great I mean they smell fantastic!

  • Marianne N.

Glad we stopped here. Service was on point and so were the donuts. A little pricey with all the "add ons" but so good. Wanted to try more combos but was too overwhelmed with the choices! So make sure you have a little game plan before you go lol. Latte was on the stronger side (which I like) so that was a plus. But if ever in Charleston, it's a must go!

  • Rani T.

Average donut. Nothing spectacular that would make me come back. It's on the sweet side, so if you're ready to get your mouth wet with grams of fructose than this might be you're lucky spot. I always prefer donuts that don't need a lot of toppings, the quality of the donut can speak for itself. It is a cute, tiny shop that kids would love to be in. Make sure to use the yelp discount!

Found this little local gem by complete chance and SO happy I did. I ordered a pumpkin caramel donut and it was amazing - so fresh and hot! The staff was friendly and the gentleman who prepared my order was very kind. When I opened my little box of deliciousness I noticed that he had added an extra donut - a cinnamon sugar classic that was by far the best I've ever had. These donuts are not heavy like traditional cake donuts and they're not greasy either. Pure yumminess!

Absolutely devine! Worth the trip. Great...The BEST! The customer service was fantastic. The choices of donuts are endless. A creative marvel. A must stop when you ate in Charleston.

  • Kenneth P.

Very good donuts. They totally put Krispy Kreme and Dunkin donuts to shame. Very friendly staff and good selection. Best of all, you create your own donut and then watch it come to life!! If you are local or just visiting, give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

  • Kristin J.

I decided to try this place because I had a voucher. It was DEFINITELY worth the 20+ minute trip and I'll visit again! The donuts and latte I got were delicious. My only problem was deciding which icing and topping combinations to try. :) I don't know if I can eat other kinds of donuts ever again...
